The Space & Philosophy
Located at The Dance Discovery in Bonn, Thaalam is a space for mindful movement, art, and joy. It is designed for those seeking a brief pause from the fast pace of daily life. We have a very simple goal: to create an inclusive environment where each class helps your mind feel lighter while you learn something new.
You do not need to perform. You simply need to arrive, move, sweat, and let the joy of dance fill your heart before the new week begins. We embrace a vibrant mix of dance forms drawn from all over India, offering a journey through rich culture via expressive, high-energy, and emotional movement.
The Process
We believe that dance must be natural, mindful, and freeing. Complex movements are simplified and made easy to learn. Every session is thoughtfully planned to care for both the body and the mind.
Centering
Drawing from traditional yoga practices, we begin by grounding ourselves, warming up the muscles, and focusing on our breath to get the body ready.
Foundation
By breaking down the steps, you understand exactly how a dance move is created, helping you build a strong, authentic foundation in Indian dance.
Choreography
The session builds up to a fun, joyful routine. We encourage you to move consciously, surprise yourself, take a leap of faith, and let go of worries.
Who is Thaalam For?
There is no age limit here. Everyone from age 6 and up is welcome. Whether you are looking to restart your dance journey after a long break, a beginner stepping into a studio for the first time, or an experienced dancer wanting to improve your technique—this space is for you.
Aiswarya
Founder & Artistic Director
With a journey spanning over two decades, Aiswarya's roots are deeply planted in the classical traditions of Kerala, India. She began her formal training at the age of five in Bharatanatyam and Mohiniyattam in Kochi, India. Over the years, her practice has grown to combine the discipline of classical arts with the fun, celebratory energy of semi-classical and Bollywood dance.
Currently serving as a Bollywood dance trainer at the University of Bonn, Aiswarya created Thaalam as a deeply personal project. After 20 years of strict classical training and stage performances, she wanted to build a space that takes away the pressure of being perfect—a safe, supportive environment to learn a new skill at your own pace and discover the pure joy of movement.
